How to log LinkedIn conversations to HubSpot

If your team sells on LinkedIn, the deal history lives in reps' inboxes — invisible to HubSpot. Three real ways to fix that, cheapest first, with the honest cost of each.

1. Log them manually on the timeline

HubSpot actually has a native slot for this: open the contact, click Log in the activity composer, and choose LinkedIn message as the type. Paste the exchange, backdate it to when it happened, save. Repeat per conversation.

The honest cost: a minute or two per conversation, and it only happens when reps remember. Threads that span days need multiple entries to keep dates truthful, so in practice they get pasted as one blob with one date — and reporting on LinkedIn touch cadence never becomes possible.

Fine when: a few important deals, low volume.

2. Use a save-to-CRM extension

Extensions like Surfe put a button inside LinkedIn that pushes the profile you're viewing into HubSpot — creating or updating the contact, often enriching email and phone, sometimes syncing the visible thread.

The honest cost: still one click per contact per conversation, so coverage tracks rep discipline. And the matching judgment is yours: same-name contacts and job-changers are exactly where duplicate records come from.

Fine when: contact capture and enrichment is the main job, and logging is occasional.

3. Log them automatically

This is what HypeSync does. Sign up, add the Chrome extension (it pairs itself), connect HubSpot with OAuth. From then on:

  • Conversations in your own LinkedIn inbox are captured as you browse — nothing to click.
  • AI triage keeps personal conversations out of HubSpot entirely.
  • Each work conversation is matched to the right contact — LinkedIn-URL match first, then email, then name-and-company with nicknames, typos, and job changes handled (98.8% precision on a 500-case audit). New people become contacts, associated to a company by domain; HubSpot has no Lead object, so there's no routing decision to make.
  • Every message lands as a dated note on the contact's timeline, titled by what it was about — the timeline mirrors the real cadence of the deal.

The honest cost: another tool in the stack, and it logs conversations going forward from install. Free plan covers 10 conversations a month; $19 per seat for unlimited.

One thing to avoid

Don't confuse logging with automation. Tools that send messages, auto-connect, or run sequences on your LinkedIn account are the ones that get accounts restricted. Reading your own inbox is not automation; acting on your behalf is. (How we draw that line: security.)
